Air curtain system
Air curtain system
Air curtain systems are used to capture smoke in die-casting plants and are a space-saving alternative to extraction hoods. In certain cases, depending on the design of a production plant, the placement and use of an extraction hood above the emission source is not possible due to space limitations or other restrictions. In order to still achieve a high separation efficiency of contaminated process exhaust air, KMA Umwelttechnik implements flexible air curtain systems.
KMA air curtain systems consist of two elements – a blower unit and a suction unit. The blower unit is positioned on one side of the production machine and generates directly above the emission source a precisely controllable horizontal cross air flow. This cross air flow, the so-called air curtain, forms a resistance preventing contaminated exhaust air from spreading inside the production hall. The air curtain flows horizontally over the emission source in towards the extraction unit. The extraction unit is positioned on the opposite side of the blower and draws in the air curtain and contaminated process exhaust air. The air flow is then transferred to a filter module to extract any impurities.
KMA air curtain systems usually require a higher extraction capacity than KMA exhaust air filtration systems in combination with extraction hoods. This is necessary as, unlike during the implementation of extraction hoods, the polluted exhaust air cannot be contained locally which therefore poses a risk of heavily contaminated exhaust air spreading inside the production hall. Furthermore, the continuity of the air curtain can be disturbed by changing spray intensities or machine parts such as robot arms. The increased extraction capacity prevents such risks and ensures a continuously high pure air quality in the working area.
KMA air curtain systems are combined with the energy-efficient KMA exhaust air filtration systems. Depending on whether the operation is designed for re-circulation or air extraction mode, one or two electrostatic filter cells can be combined with a demister.
