Decarbonising the textile industry

Tech4Food, in collaboration with ATP – Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal, organised the first edition of the Decarbonisation Recognition Ceremony in the Textile Industry.

The event honoured three textile companies – Carvema, Gravotêxtil and Tinkave – that have stood out for implementing advanced heat recovery and air filtration technologies. “We have been trying to work with the different institutions, particularly the government, so that there is support for companies to make investments like this and become more competitive,” said Mário Jorge Machado, president of ATP, at the opening of CRDIT.

This special ceremony aimed to celebrate the commitment of these companies to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, emphasising the positive impact of their actions on the planet. “In 2021, we decided to have a unit dedicated to energy savings, while the gas crisis hadn’t happened yet. I compliment the companies that made this decision, which, despite the uncertainty, was very proactive,” emphasised Fernando Saraiva, CEO of Tech4Food, in his speech.

The award-winning companies have achieved a significant emissions reduction target, accounting for 150 fewer tonnes of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This milestone demonstrates the importance and effectiveness of technological innovation in promoting industrial sustainability. “More important than the figures being good is that they are constant. The issue of cleanliness is also very important and can be achieved with minimal intervention,” explained Carlos Carvalho. Carvema’s managing partner also pointed out the advantage of being able to track the energy recovery, which allows him to later quantify them for his clients, who increasingly demand that he provide data demonstrating the reduction of their carbon footprint.
